Job cuts starting to hurt across the state

Jun 28, 2012

The impacts of LNP’s indiscriminate cost-cutting will be hurting many Queenslanders over the next few weeks.

In Cairns, 43 Q Build workers have just been sacked. These are the workers that make sure Queensland’s public buildings like schools and police stations are maintained. And they played a major part in rebuilding public facilities after the natural disasters of 2011.

Expect more job cut announcements over the coming days, with a serious impact on frontline service delivery and regional economies, not to mention the people  themselves. These are real people facing mortgage payments, childcare fees, rates bills.

It’s hard to see how hardship and uncertainty for these workers and their families will “pull Queensland out of the power dive into the abyss”, Mr Newman, especially in regional communities like Cairns.
